Dr. Joseph Choi is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine. He provides nonoperative and operative treatment options for common sports injuries of both high-level athletes and those who simply want to remain active. He specializes in complex arthroscopy, repair and reconstruction of tendons and ligaments, and restoration of cartilage.

He also performs arthroplasty for treatment of arthritis of the hip, knee, and shoulder. Dr. Choi has a particular interest in the advancement and integration of technology, and is certified to perform joint replacements using robotic systems with customized preoperative plans.

Dr. Choi grew up in Wayne, New Jersey, then went on to graduate from Columbia University in NYC. After college, he worked in investment banking and obtained a CFA designation. After sustaining sports-related injuries and undergoing multiple orthopedic surgeries himself, he discovered a passion for orthopedic surgery and made the decision to leave finance for medicine. He obtained his medical degree at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson in New Brunswick, NJ, and completed his orthopedic residency training at Seton Hall/St. Joseph’s Medical Center, where he served as Executive Chief Resident. Following residency, Dr. Choi completed a sports medicine fellowship at the renowned Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City to specialize in advanced arthroscopic techniques. During his fellowship, he served as an assistant team physician for the New York Jets and the NFL Combine.

Throughout his career, he has provided medical care on the sidelines for several NJ and NY high school districts. Dr. Choi has published numerous book chapters and scientific articles in peer-reviewed orthopedic journals pertaining to his interests in sports injuries, arthritis, and fracture care. Having been an orthopedic patient himself, Dr. Choi is passionate about providing compassionate, patient-centered care. Dr. Choi is deeply committed to his craft as an orthopedist with the ultimate goal of improving the quality of life of his patients.
